RULES
Short version: one game a day, same game for everyone, and your first finish is the one that counts.
ONE DAILY GAME FOR EVERYONE
Every player gets the same daily game: the same team, the same moment, the same calls, and the options in the same order. That way your squares mean the same thing as your friends' squares.
Each daily is the third period of a real NHL game from the night before, picked for a close finish with real late-game decisions. Games three or more goals apart after two are never picked.
WHEN IT RESETS
A new daily goes up every morning at 11:00 UTC (6 or 7 AM ET). That's 11:00 Coordinated Universal Time, which is 7 AM Eastern during daylight saving time and 6 AM Eastern the rest of the year. It can take a few minutes after that to show up.
Until the new game posts, yesterday's daily is still today's game. On the rare night with no game that qualifies, the current daily simply stays up a little longer, and streaks don't break.
YOUR FIRST PLAY IS THE ONE THAT COUNTS
- Calls lock in. Your grade for a call is saved the moment you pick it, before the real play is shown.
- Reloads don't re-roll. Refreshing the page, closing the tab or coming back later picks up exactly where you left off, with the same six and the same calls.
- Both benches count as one play. The chase and the hold are one game, locked in together. Switching benches doesn't give you a second shot at the first.
- The real coach is graded on his late calls. Only his late decisions: when he pulled, who took the draw with the net empty, when the goalie came back for a draw, and the final unit. Holding the lead has no real-coach grade.
- Practice runs don't count. After the final horn you can replay the game for fun. Your saved result and squares stay as they were.
STREAKS
- Your streak is the number of dailies in a row you finished while they were the current daily.
- Not playing yet today doesn't break your streak. Letting a new daily post before you finish the old one does.
- Archive games don't extend streaks. Replaying a past daily is for fun and practice only.
- Classic games don't count either. Play them any time, as often as you like.
- Streaks are about showing up, not about grades. An all-red day still counts.
WHERE YOUR STREAK LIVES
There are no accounts. Your streak and saved plays are stored in your browser on your device. If you clear your browser data, switch browsers or switch devices, your streak starts over. See the Privacy Policy for details.
PLAY FAIR
It's a game about hockey judgment. Please don't post spoilers about the calls on the day of a daily. Your shared squares never show the real final.
